It’s hard to believe I’m already entering my fourth season as a full-fledged Crier, and every day I feel proud to be part of a group that is truly unlike any other orchestra. In most ensembles, leadership flows from the top down. Here, it’s shared equally among 18 musicians who bring their collective ideas, experiences, and passions to the table.
Because of this democratic approach there is a constant explosion of creativity. Fun fact: we have a slide deck (called “The Vault”) that holds all of our yet-to-be performed program ideas. It currently has 106 slides, and keeps growing! None of this work happens in a vacuum, and we are so grateful to you for helping bring these ideas to life over the past 19 seasons - listening, providing feedback, and supporting us with every ticket sale and donation.
Now, as we approach our 20th season, we are channeling that creative energy in bold new ways. At first glance, this year’s concerts may not look different from a typical A Far Cry season, but if you look closely, many hint at new initiatives: Side By Side empowers young musicians as co-equals; Little Criers inspires the next generation of good listeners; Amplified launches a new cross-genre collaboration series; and Coming To Boston explores the rich cultural fabric of our city and the people who call it home. Through these experiments, we will connect across even broader audiences to fulfill our mission in a deeper way.
In order to do this, we are calling on you – as citizens of our musical democracy – to help sustain and grow this work. Please consider renewing or increasing your gift to help us reach our ambitious goal to raise $300,000 by December 31.
Making music the A Far Cry way requires immense effort and resources, but I believe that it’s worth it. Thank you for inspiring us and helping us make an even bigger impact in the years to come.
