SPOTLIGHT: STUDENT PERFORMERS

Laura Licata (she/her) 8th grade, violin

Laura Licata is a Project STEP and New England Conservatory Preparatory student under the study of Magdalena Richter. When she was 7 years old she won a concerto competition at the Claflin Hill music school. Last year, she played Giga, Bach Partita in D minor at the Haynes Convention Center and she also won third place in NEC’s Concerto Competition. She is currently playing with the Boston Ballet in the next generation collaboration. Her skills in orchestral music have placed her in the Youth Symphony Orchestra at NEC at 13 years old. She lives with her parents and her dog named Patches.


Alba Gilabert-Reid (she/her) 9th grade, viola

ALBA GILABERT-REID, 15, hails from Quincy, Massachusetts. She is a freshman at Milton Academy. Alba has been playing violin since she was five at Project STEP and New England Conservatory. She studies with Liana Zaretsky and is the current concert mistress of Youth Symphony at NEC. Besides violin, Alba spends her time reading and playing sports, such as soccer and track. She also enjoys other art forms, such as singing, dancing, and musical theater. In school she is an active member of the Student Lead Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Committee, as well as a member of other clubs.


Lorenzo Ye (he/him) 10th grade, cello

LORENZO YE Both a gifted pianist and cellist, Lorenzo Ye has been performing with Project STEP since 2016. Recently, Lorenzo participated in the YOLA national summer festival, an intensive summer orchestra program hosted by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Lorenzo attends the Boston Latin School and studies with cellist Meghan Carye.
